Age Level: Elementary children
Elementary children are in the concrete operations stage of development. The concrete operational stage of development is when children learn to use mental operations to solve concrete or actual problems. It is a higher level of cognition activities than preoperational thinking. However, the thinking process has poor abstract ideas. Spatial thinking is a child’s ability to analyze and engage in problem solving (Bojczyk, Shriner, B. M., & Shriner, M., 2012). It is using patterns and recognizing the involvement of objects(Bojczyk, Shriner, B. M., & Shriner, M., 2012). Categorization is the ability that helps a child to think logically and is another advancement within the concrete operational stage of development(Bojczyk, Shriner, B. M., & Shriner, M., 2012). Transitive inference is defined as the ability to see the relationship between a whole and it’s individual parts (Bojczyk, Shriner, B. M., & Shriner, M., 2012).
