Compassion And The Individual, By Tenzin Gyatzo

“Treat others how you want to be treated.” This is a quote that I live by and believe that if you live by this, you will be a good person. A good person is one who helps others when they have been knocked down or are hurt. They have good morals and does what’s right in the eyes of most people even if it makes you unpopular. One also helps others who are less fortunate and may not be able to help themselves. In "Compassion and the Individual," Tenzin Gyatzo, the fourteenth Dalai Lama, describes a good person as one who is happy, content, loved, compassionate in their life. What does it mean to be a good person. Dalai Lama stresses that it is important to be happy in order to be a good person. He says,”The mind, however, registers every event, no matter how small. Hence we should devote our most serious efforts to …show more content…
She says,”I swear, by my life and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.” She is saying that she only lives for herself and has no purpose for living for the benefit of others and that she wouldn’t expect someone else to live for her. I disagree with this because I believe that others make you more willing to live and fight for what you believe in. Also that without others love, than you will be sad and others love is important to survive.
I believe that a good person is one who helps others when they are down. An example of this is when in football someone was laying on the field and couldn't get up, and I helped that person up. Helping that person gave me a great sense of pride and joy. Another way that I believe that you can be a good person is by helping others who are less fortunate. An example of this is when my mom made me go help out at a soup kitchen. After I did this, I became more appreciative of what I have and felt good about helping those who needed

They’re about 7.125 billion people in the world, and in no way is it possible that every one of those people are “good.” The reason I put that word in parenthesis is because the meaning of it varies from one another. For example, they could be a good father, but an evil husband. The word good will be used in a sense of moral goodness. Out of all those people in the world, a small majority of them can’t make humanity evil just because they want to be.…

Speaking from a personal perspective, being plagued with the wrong identity labels could lead me to commit acts of evil. Both the SPE and group identity formed in terrorism shows the effects of how having certain associations could mislead me to commit acts I would not have committed otherwise. Because of possible horrors that could result from flawed personal identification, it is essential that I remain conscious of what my identifications are. Furthermore, it is crucial that my beliefs consistently align with my actions. As Marsella said, “Belief provides meaning and purpose—it reduces uncertainty and facilitates adaptation and adjustment” (Marsella 2004, 41).…

Just like most people, I would like to consider myself a good person. Perhaps it’s naive and even hypocritical to claim this, but I do actively try to better myself every day. I know that I can be dogmatic at times, and I often get into foul moods and say things I probably shouldn’t. Conversely, I remind my friends to wear sunscreen everyday because I am worried about their health. I am always willing and ready to watch someone at a party and to make sure they get home…

In a world where the negative is on constant display, and the positive is increasingly undermined for its counterpart, its easy for many to look past what it truly means to do good for the people around you. In addition, many believe that these positives, these acts of good, need to be large and on display for the people around them - as if they are doing it as an act of personal gain. This attitude is completely botched, for the greatest, most lasting, and most rewarding act any individual can do is the little things, the things that leave you, and the person you helped, with a smile on their face and warmth in their heart. There is no limit to the amount of kindness that one can spread, and it could be anything from smiling at someone who…
