I think a compass and straightedge were use in the old times also by the Greeks because when they were going to drafts an early blue print for the house they want to construct. These can also be seen in your family or in many jobs. But today if some one want to construct a house he need to use a compass to do a circle or an angle. These are the excellent skill that had to be done by hand or even in the 1900 prior to computers and drawing programs
