High Noon Film Analysis

Both the film, High Noon, and the story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” share a very similar setting that affects the course of the stories. “Near a landmark of some kind-a tree or an outcropping of a rock-a man on a horseback awaits”(Foreman 288). This quote is trying to demonstrate how the closest object, feature of a landmark or town of Hadleyville is a tree, which goes to show how detached from society the setting of High Noon is. “His eyes made out the shadowy outlines of a palatial chateau: it was set on a high bluff, and on three sides of it cliffs dived down to where the sea licked greedy lips in the shadows,”(Connell 7). This quote, which is talking about the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” is saying that there is one chateau, …show more content…
Who cares how a jaguar feels”(Connell 3)? Although Whitney, as said in the quote, is a big-game hunter, he has a discussion with Rainsford and says that animals do have feelings, more specifically the fear of death. In this quote Whitney is showing his empathy for living creatures , even though Rainsford is trying to tell him that he is a hunter who hunts big and difficult animals so why does he care how an animal feels. “It’s our problem because it’s our town. We built it with our hands, from nothing . . . And if we want to keep it decent, keep it growing, then we got to think mighty clear here today— and we got to have the courage to do the right thing, no matter how hard it is,”( Foreman 315). This quote, which is taking place when Kane is trying to get deputies in the church, demonstrates that it is the responsibility of the people to protect the town and fight against Frank Miller and his gang since it is their town. When contrasting the theme of the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game” and the film, High Noon, there are a lot of differences. The theme of the film is responsibility to society vs. self interest, while the theme of the story is empathy for all living creatures. In High Noon, the citizens of Hadleyville are confronting a conflict involving the arrival of the specific person who had …show more content…
Yes, he is the best marshal we ever had, maybe the best we’ll ever have,’ ”(Foreman 315). This proves that Will Kane was very good at his job, which was being marshal, since he turned the town upright by sending away criminals and getting order. “ ‘I’ve read your book about snow leopards in Tibet, you see, explained the man,’ ”(Connell 8). Though this quote may seem short and insignificant, this citation demonstrates that Rainsford is a proficient and talented hunter, because of the fact that he has written a book, the person who read his book is extraordinary in hunting, and a mediocre hunter wouldn’t travel all the way to China just to hunt leopards. Despite the fact that Rainsford and Kane have different jobs, they are both excellent at what they do, especially being marksmen. Another similarity between the two main characters is that they are both fighting for their lives, and every minute that they stay and decide to not run away from their problems they are risking to never see another day again. Because Kane sent Miller to jail, Miller has decided to come back for revenge meaning that he plans to kill Kane, but Kane decided to stay and fight Miller and his gang. On the
