The biggest issue in the society today is having the right to do as you please. The government is responsible for protecting the society, but they seem to hold many restrictions that are a bit too much. Decisions that the government make has an effect on people action’s and negative feedback. To help eliminate the confusion, it would be best to gather other people’s opinions before making a decision from one individual. This basically describes how Weed and McKeown (2003) express their opinion that would be beneficial to everyone.

Observing family members and friends, smoking could influence children to start at an early age. As a little girl, I lived around smoking family member. I remember playing around with my cousins, picking up cigarettes and trying to smoke them after a family member threw it out. This is a prime example of Matur (2014) point of view on children. Matur (2014) express how different it would make a child to not live with individuals that smoke. Cohen Mansfield (2012) compared the generation today and the old-old generation. Back in the day, smoking and drinking was not as big as a problem today, but that caused the bigger issue in today’ society.
Describe some of the policies that have been enacted to counter the issues arising from second-hand smoke on children and adolescents.
A recent policy has been established about smoking around underage children. You cannot smoke in a car with an underage child present. Smoking in the school yard, restaurants, non-smoking hotel rooms, hospitals, and other areas where children are present is not allowed or restricted to a certain area or distance from the facility.

If teachers and parents could help persuade children to eat healthier, it would make a big difference. On the other hand, a child that may not like the school food and persuade their parents into bringing their lunch which would include snacks and junk food, causing poor nutrition. In the home life, food is very expensive. The price of cherries and other fruits and vegetables may not be affordable, when chips and cookies are sold at a lower price.
Is the creation of public policy necessary in this area?
I do not think the public policy is necessary because the subject is children. As they development and learn new things, they learn how to make decisions and benefit or learn from that decision. Guidance from teachers, parents, staff, and other positive individuals would make a public policy more useful.
Based on the professional standards, is the creation of such policies ethical?
The policies are ethnical to some sense. In regard to child, the last say so or decision is left up to the parent. Some parents may be for or against the healthier nutrition and teaching of the no smoking habits. In school, you have to be careful how you express the issue of drugs and alcohol. Children tend to hear bits and pieces of the concept and go home telling parents the wrong
