For my final project on Egypt and Kush, I created the Giza Pyramids. I made the pyramids using a plaster mold kit, and gold paint. I have been interested in Ancient Egypt since I was very little. I enjoyed building the pyramids and studying this unit.

So who were the pyramids built for? In Ancient Egypt, pyramids were built as tombs. The Pharaoh would be buried in a pyramid after he or she died. The Great Pyramid Of Giza was built for the Pharaoh Khufu. This pyramid is the oldest and largest of the three Giza pyramids. Khafre, or the second Giza pyramid, was built as a resting place for the Pharaoh Khafre. The third Giza pyramid is known as Menkaure. It is smaller than the other two pyramids. Where were these pyramids built. The three pyramids were built in El Giza, Egypt. This area is also known as the Giza Plateau. The pyramids of Giza were built almost perfectly in line with the three stars in Orion's Belt (the constellation). The corners of each pyramid are also aligned with the cardinal points on a compass.

How were the pyramids built? The three Giza pyramids were built by Egyptian slaves. The slaves would work day and night hauling tons of pounds of limestone bricks on wheeled carts. The pyramid of Khufu is 455’ tall. Thousands of slaves and workers died building these pyramids.

The Egyptians believed that the soul of someone lives in after death. They also believed that they would need treasure and gifts in the afterlife. The pyramids were built as tombs for Pharaohs, and a storage vault for their valuables. As the oldest wonders of the world, the three Giza pyramids stand tall in Egypt.
