Discuss the interplay between how individuals perceive themselves and how they are perceived by others. In his film Gattaca Andrew Niccol explored this dichotomy of people’s thoughts of us and our thoughts on ourselves. We would like to pretend we do not care how others perceive us; however, we have all secretly yearned to fit in somewhere, be it at work, school or at social gatherings. The way in which we see ourselves is heavily influenced by other people’s perceptions of us.…
Both skulls are consist of a cranium, the space where the brain is located and protected, a muzzle, the face and nose of the Equidae, and the mouth and jaws. When observing the Eohippus skull, the eyes are located at a nearly equal distance between the end of the cranium and the end of the muzzle and the mouth had very few gaps between teeth. However, as evolution progressed to the Mesohippus, the distance between the eyes and the end of the muzzle had increased and as a result, larger gaps were observed between the front and back sets of teeth. The nasal bone between the two nostrils became thinner and no longer reached the muzzle.…
Having dermal ridges on the hands and feet is another trait, allowing primates to have better gripping abilities when climbing. Primates have dietary plasticity and can be seen through their teeth. Another trait is the forward-facing eyes with gives primates’ better vision, including depth perception…
Salem’s Birthday “Her name is Salem,” Yvaine indicated rocking the new citizen of Stormhold. I felt the happiness in her eyes which is beyond sensational, while my parents in the back feeling proud and giving us moral support. “Yvaine, she’s delightful,” I said with glee, saying all her hard work of labour was worth it. “She got it from her old man,” Dunstan boasted while walking towards Salem to get a better look with arms crossed. “Dunstan!”…
In comparison to the majority of other mammals, primates tend to have a much more elaborate and evolved way of parenting. Mainly due to the fact that primates have few offspring, they are inclined to care for a look after their young longer. Much more time is spent raising their children then other mammals. Primates have a longer life span and a longer development period in which they are nurtured and taught their social expectations. Unlike most mammals, female primates have an extensive time period between the time they get pregnant with their offspring.…
Humans and primates share many similarities, in fact, such behaviors of humans are greatly reflected in primates. Even though, there are still many primates in the wild the easiest way to observe primates is at a local zoo. For the purpose of observing two primates, I made a visit to Los Angeles Zoo on a very sunny day, September 4, 2016 at 1pm. My visit to the zoo was a quite exhausting one since the weather was almost 90 degrees and I was quite hungry.…
On March seventh of two thousand and seventeen I took a trip to the Toledo Zoo. The weather on March seventh was slightly overcast, yet somewhat cool with a nice breeze. Throughout the zoo some animals ventured outdoors in their enclosed habitats enjoying the break from the cold winter. Other remained behind the walls of their comfortable heated enclosures. Walking around the zoo was quite enjoyable, however when I came across the primate exhibit/enclosure there were no primates or other viewing areas to view them indoors.…
Sensation and Perception in Dillard’s “Seeing” There is no one way to look at nature. Everyone has their own way of looking at nature, but in “Seeing,” author Annie Dillard sees nature in two radically different and contradictory ways. Early on in the chapter, she explores an overly analytical method of seeing that she first began to use as a little girl searching the air for flying insects. But as the chapter progresses, she shifts to a second, arguably preferred method of seeing involving a regression to her most basic senses, followed by a gradual development of perception.…
The goal of this project is to examine the effects of naturalistic housing in Zoos such as the Louisville Zoo and how it affects them in cognitive activity. The increasing need of Zoos providing naturalistic housing for such animals is a necessity to prevent failure to thrive. Observations on primates in these naturalistic housings and use of cognitive activates can provide a captivating understanding on the species and select individuals. Visit and Observation This researcher went to the Louisville Zoo on November 6, 2015 to visit and observe the Gorilla Sanctuary.…
The Imitation of Life and The Bluest Eye were two pieces of work that let their audience take a look at the world through the eyes of females in the 1930s. The Imitation of Life debuted in 1934 and was produced by John Stahl. Because it was set and made in a time before the Civil Rights Movement, there were a lot of guidelines that the production crew had to conform to that so the “wrong” message was not being displayed. There was a lot of scandal behind the making of the movies because many felt as though Louise Beavers, who played Aunt Delilah, should have received an Oscar for her performance in the movie but she did not because of the color of her skin.…
“The only tissue to contract in the body are the muscles therefore they move other parts of the body. The secondary function of the muscular system is the maintenance of posture and body position”. Another function of the muscular system is its ability to move substances inside the body, and the muscles that are responsibly for these movement are the cardiac and the smooth muscles. They transport substance like blood or nutrient/food from one part of the body to another. The muscle are a great generator of heat, a high metabolic rate of constricting muscles in the muscular system excrete…
A trip to the zoo is always enlightening as no matter how long ago it was we last visited we can always forget something about the animals that live this world with us. Going to the zoo can remind us that we are creatures just like these animals, but also remind us that we are so much more than just animals. Our lives on the surface seem so much more complex than the primates around us, however if we could take the time to observe the lives and the emotions of the animals around us then maybe we can learn who they are, and maybe who we are. The primate that I picked was a mongooses lemur, native to Madagascar.…
The two primates I chose to observe were chimpanzees and orangutans. I had no particular reason for choosing these particular primates except for the fact that they were easier for me to access. I first observed the chimpanzees on April 23rd. I was able to do both a group and focus observation on the chimpanzees. I chose to fill out the quantitative observation form on a focused observation because I wanted to focus on a single chimpanzee performing certain behaviors over a group.…
Disclaimer: This post is long, deals with mature topics of a sexual nature, contains a little swearing, and may also be a potential trigger for some abuse survivors. Additionally, it was written from the perspective of a cisgender, heterosexual woman as I relate to cisgender, hetorsexual men. 3. I define perception as the way we view things about the world and others. The five stages of perception are stimulation, organization, interpretation-evaluation, memory, and recall. Stimulation is how you perceive things with your senses. This includes sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch.…
