Roby MWF The Olympians And The Romans Side By Side. All across the world there are myths and legends. Many people are fascinated by Greek gods and Roman gods. There are a few similarities between Greek and Roman gods like they are both myths and they are represented by a symbol. There are also many differences between like their names and their forms on earth. Names are unique, and the way people came up with the names was a huge surprise to me. I was imagining some big, extravagant way of how the names connected with the gods or goddesses. That idea however, was shot down immediately. The names for the Greek gods were infact influenced by human personalities and the gods roles in life. For the Roman gods it was slightly different. Their names were based on objects. Their physical forms are the ones that are mainly used while walking around the humans. The Greek gods were very appealing to the eyes of the people. Their physical attributes were luscious hair, beautiful bodies, and eyes that enhanced their looks. A small number of them could change their appearance. Aphrodite could make herself more appealing and more alluring to different people. On the other hand, Roman gods did not have physical forms. Roman gods were more in people’s imaginations and in the stories they told. They were never given physical forms because they never needed them. Many gods, Greek or Roman, are represented by a symbol. For example the symbol for Dionysus is the grape vine. His symbol is the grape vine because he is the Greek god that invented wine. Vulcan’s symbol is the hammer because he is the Roman blacksmith. Many Roman gods have the same symbol as the Greek gods. Venus and Aphrodite have the symbol of a dove.
