Thoreau saw society just like Mccandless, they both wanted to “explore” and value nature, something most of us ignore and see no importance in. Thoreau believed that people should live a simple life. We go to school to get an education, then a career and work for the rest of our lives. To Thoreau, this is not living. Nor was it for Mccandless. They didn’t care about money or materials. In fact, Mccandless thought that money was something that changed people, and that, that was all they cared about. In the article, “ Into the Wild “, Chandler Broadbent states, “... all people want is success and power and that these desires only corrupt us into living shallow, false lives” ( Par. 2). This realization was made by Mccandless, this idea was something he didn’t want. He wanted to go out there and live, live by going on an adventure to Alaska. A quote by Thoreau says, “Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth.” As you can see Thoreau claims he wants the truth, like Mccandless they want something real. A life where they are able to be themselves. Both of these men didn't care about-about money, or success. They wanted more than that, this shows how they both think the same way and how they value things that you don’t have to work for, but that was given to
