Luke was a character that was presented to the audience as someone whom they could relate to. He was an everyday, normal person that was placed into a world unbeknownst to them, and was portrayed to be as human, relatable and flawed as possible. “But I was going into Tosche Station to pick up some power converters! As a lifelong Star Wars fan who has seen many documentaries and character studies about it, one particular motif that has been mentioned as an inspiration for the character of Luke Skywalker and Star Wars was “The Hero’s Journey.” In the book The Hero with a Thousand Faces by author Joseph Campbell, it was quoted that “A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man.” Having lost his dear family and home, Luke finally accepts that his destiny was to not stay at home on Tatooine and live out his days on being a moisture farmer, but to embark on a journey that would forever change his ordinary life. I cannot imagine my life without Star Wars. What ultimately appeals to me about Wars is its characters. Luke Skywalker and Han Solo entice to me in different ways.
