Comparing Love In Summer Of 19 You And Me And When We Two Parted

Humanity stays under the impression that all good things must end, however the power of love defies this logic. Love is an eternal presence. Even after heartbreak, love never truly fades away. True, many interpret love differently, however its existence is constant even long after its ending. Dan and Shay’s song, “Summer of 19 You and Me”, differs from Lord Byron’s poem, “When We Two Parted”, in rhetorical elements and both poems express separate romantic situations. However, while the two entities are very different, the sustained presence of the narrator’s love in both the poem and the song, even after lost love, proves its sustainable and everlasting nature.
Dan and Shay’s song articulates a nostalgic love tale, highlighting the artists’ continuous love through his memories. The use of rhyme throughout the song elicits an overall upbeat tone. The weather is “102”(4) leaving the couple “nothing to do” (l5) but jump in the water.( 6-7) The rhyme scheme is

The song represents an ever-lasting memory in which the speaker’s love exists, and the poem describes a heart-wrenching break-up the narrator will never accept. There is love in both of these entities and there love is felt both negatively and positively. The poet’s love is tragic, felt through the tears he cries over the lover he couldn’t keep, while the artists of the song feel love through “a sense of gentlemanly nostalgia” (Lisphuntz 1). The singers accept love as a changing presence while keeping the time spent with their true love a souvenir to remember for years to come; while the poet refuses to accept his woman has left him and there will be no more memories made between the two. Throughout my lifetime, there has been moments of laughter as well as grief. But a moment in my life that was pivotal was when I first felt the love of my life, at the moment, fade away slowly from me and sort of detach from our relationship. The song by Christian Nodal- “Adios Amor” showed me how at times when the love fades between partners to the point where there is no love at all, you have to do your best to move on rather than spending time grieving the love that is lost. Therefore, the song “Adios Amor” gave me the tough realization that some relationships are best to let go of if they don’t work as a young adult, and will continue to guide me throughout my life.…

Author used words such as “on and on”(line 11) to demonstrate the deepness and the intensiveness of the young man’s desire toward the woman. An image of the young man alone in the bed, “tossed from one side to another”(line 2) showed how much he suffered from loving the woman he was unable to get. This stanza conveyed sorrows and pains the man went through when the maiden he thought of day and night rejected him, and this created in a sad tone in contrast to the happy and exciting tone before. Nonetheless, starting from the fourth stanza, the tone seemed to move back toward the happy side of the scale. In line 16, “With harps we bring her company”, the young man shortened the distance between him and the maiden through playing harps.…

Humans have always looked for the answer to finding happiness in life. For the majority of people, they believe that love will bring them this sense of happiness. In Barbara Fredrickson’s, “Selections from Love 2.0: How Our Supreme Emotion Affects Everything We Feel, Think, Do and Become,” she talks about how we see love in the wrong way and that we should start looking at love the way the body sees it. With the conventional notions of love and relationships, love becomes more complex by giving people the sense of longing.…

Young and Beautiful was used for the 2013 movie adaptation of the novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby, which took in place in the 1920s. The lyrics allude to the conflicts that Gatsby and Daisy come into contact with while the instrumentals of the song create a slow, haunting, and melodic feel as the lyrics are being sung. The alleged context of rage and resentment pictured before is encouraged to change to a more serene environment fostered by a melancholic song. The pleasing melody creates a mild scenery and the harsh feelings dissipate. We can also notice the duet is formed by a male voice (Leonard Cohen) and a female voice (Sharon Robinson). The story of an unreciprocated love gives room to probable disagreements caused by lack of communication and a chain of misunderstandings. In fact, when the two speakers sing as one they actually seem to be in accordance with each other or, to put it in another way, by listening to the melody, we recover the emotional content of the musical passage and what the speakers feel are now in unison.…

In this poem the speaker talks about taking a stroll in the evening, gazing upon the crowds of people and hearing a lover sing to his beloved about how his love for her will never end, but then he imagines that the clocks start responding to the lover’s words. The clocks respond to the lover with contradiction by suggesting that love will end at some point because life ends. The lover’s tone appears optimistic, but the clocks’ tone contradicts the lover with words expressing candid cynicism. The author utilizes a number of devices, such as personification, symbolism and metaphors, in an effort to demonstrate the idea that we need to cherish the time we have because one day our time will end, and, since life ends, love also comes to an end.…

From the Reading 2.2, the poems display main themes of love and desire by which the speaker in each poem either directly refers to deeply loving an individual or, like in the first poem, references are made to a mistress understanding the problems of the speaker and the speaker revealing a love for the mistress because the problem described is a comparison to the love he has for her, since it is deep (pg. 58) While the speakers in the last two poems are desiring the love of the person whom they love, the first poems speakers love is out of appreciation for that understanding between the speaker and his lover. These same themes of love and desire can be found in a large variety of ways in our culture. The romance novels that are produced, the Twilight Series, the books and movies, and the many love movies that are available, all portray that same volume of love and desire that are expressed in the poems.…
