This can also be related to Figure 2.2 which shows a generalized food web including a cane toad. The Bornean orangutan is listed as just endangered while the Sumatran orangutan is listed as critically endangered, which the species I observed in the zoo. They are seriously threatened by logging, conversion of forest to agricultural land, oil palm plantations, and fragmentation by roads. These animals are also being illegally hunted and captured for pet trade. Sadly, orangutans are killed as pests when they raid fruit crops at the edge of forests. I hope the condition for this species does not get any worse because I would hate to see them go extinct.…

Although the entirety of Brian Gratwicke’s presentation entitled A Conservationist’s Perspective on the Global Amphibian Crisis was both informative and inspirational, there were two main messages from the presentation, in particular, that resonated with me the most. These messages include the purpose of conservation, and persevering even when the outlook is grim. It was due to the relatedness and the fact that conservation scientists often forget these messages that I regard the aforementioned messages as the most important. Brian Gratwicke defined the purpose of conservation science to be the mitigation of a threat. This purpose is often lost in light of politics.…

The Orangutan was trying to assert her dominance in the new strange territory, similarly the Hyena was also competing for dominance. Both of these animals were trying to intimidate the other by showing their teeth and making loud, scary, aggressive noises. This was all just an attempt to try and determine who was higher on the food chain.…

Over the past 500 years, more than 1,000 known species have gone extinct. The case of extinction has been occurring on Earth as long as life has existed, however it did not come to light as an issue to the general public until just over a century ago. The Public Service Announcement from The Wildfire Conservation Society is effective at convincing the audience of the importance of animal extinctions and laws passed. As humans, we have made this issue a chaos due to hunting animals, global warming, and the way we treat our environment. We are currently experiencing the largest species die off since the extinction of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago.…

Millions of years before humans existed, causes of extinction of living things were mostly linked to geological and climate effects (environmental change). Even though, environmental change is still the primary root for the extinction of organisms, but now the process of extinction is accelerated by human modernization and development and activity.…
