Both John and Huck’s lives are both intertwined with pain. Huck’s life was riddled with misfortune. Not only did his mom die, but his dad was an abusive drunk, and eventually abandoned him. John’s life has no exception when it comes to pain. John had grappled with his lustful desires. After John committed adultery, he struggled immensely with not being in God's good favor. John Proctor, one of the brave few who stood in front of the courtroom, rejected the idea of witchery in Salem. Huck Finn escaped the wrath of his father, and risked his own life to help an escaped slave find the bliss of freedom. Both of these characters have an unspoken bravery about them. John didn’t consider himself brave, because he was drowning in the fear of his sins. Huck didn’t necessarily see himself as a brave person, because he just thought he was doing the right thing. Nevertheless, both John and Huck are great examples of bravery. Even though their causes for bravery differed, they still stood up for what they thought was right.
