In the passages The Count of Monte Cristo and Blessings, two different themes are developed. They each are developed in two different ways, both fairly clear, though. By these themes being developed, it creates a better sense of what's going on in the passages. What the theme is and how the theme is developed play big parts in the story. In The Count of Monte Cristo, the theme is that freedom is something you work for, something you earn yourself. This is shown by Edmond and the prisoner that is trying to free himself or herself.
