Many of the tribes provided warriors, bearers, and women to cook food. All of the tribes played a huge part in the Spaniards success, but the most notable is the Tlaxacan. The Tlaxacan were the Aztec’s arched enemies. At first the Tlaxacan and the Spaniards fought at first believing that one was allies with the other’s enemies. The Tlaxacan would always retreat from battles with Spaniards because they knew they were no against match against the Spaniards firearms and battle tactics. After a few bloody battles the Tlaxacan decided it would be best to befriend the Spaniards, then it would be to be complete slaughtered by them. Soon both side found out that were both against the Aztecs. The Tlaxacan had been the only tribes that managed to prevent the Aztecs form conquering them. Without the help of each other neither side would have done well against the Aztecs. Many of the Alliances with the Natives were based off of fear of the Spaniards or the two wanted to go after the Aztecs. The Spaniards often abused their alliances with the natives. They made unfair trades and often tried converting them to Christianity. When the Natives would refuse to convert, Cortés was quick to lose his temper. The Spaniards got well fed, taken care of, and got to stay in Montezuma’s Palace. Montezuma soon became a hostage in his own palace, and Cortés ruled through him. It is unknown how this happened. This was just the beginning of Montezuma’s end. Cortés had to leave Tenochtitlan to fight of Velázquez’s men, who would surely have him jailed for his acts against Velázquez, left Alvarado in charge. Alvarado was on of Cortés’s most trusted captains. During the Toxcalt celebration, Alvarado had every one attending the celebration murdered. This outraged the Aztecs, who then started a riot. Montezuma was killed with a flying projectile while trying to calm the angry swarm. The exact details of his death are unknown. This is all known as the Great Temple
