College football differs from the NFL in various of ways. Division 1 programs are all granted the ability to offer full ride scholarships to athletes they want at their school. To get into a division 1 program you must have at least a 2.0 GPA with a SAT score that matches up with your GPA. This is the division with a greater body of students and student-athletes. Division 2 colleges are smaller than the division 1 programs. There are more than 300 D2 schools in the U.S that provides athletic competition. Division 2 programs are only granted partial scholarships and academic scholarships, plus grants. At a division 2 program you are required a 2.2 GPA with a SAT score that matches on the sliding scale in order to be accepted into any D2 program. Division 3 schools are not granted athletic scholarships. They only can give out academic scholarships and grants for athletes they want to recruit. NAIA programs are granted athletic scholarships and academic scholarships on top of grants. NAIA programs are D2 programs but are private schools. At NAIA programs it 's the same requirements needed to be met academically. Student athletes are the center of all NAIA programs. There are over 60.000 student athletes that attend NAIA programs in the nation. Junior colleges are the last branch of collegiate sports.
