Beowulf has many allies, maybe even more than Hercules. But they weren’t a hundred percent loyal to him, if they were, they would have stayed with him till the end, Beowulf’s “allies” would have fought with him even when it was a time of life or death. If they were truly loyal they wouldn’t have left like cowards and let Beowulf fight to his death on his own. “No help or backing was to be had then / from his high-born comrades; that hand-picked troop / broke ranks and ran for their lives.” (2597-2598) Here is when the story was talking about how the men ran for their lives. When they left Beowulf to fight on his own; even though Beowulf believed them and picked them for a reason. Its importance here would be to show the reader that the men do leave Beowulf to fight the dragon alone. But Hercules had an ally and a best friend, he had Pegasus, who is a winged horse. Pegasus was as loyal as can be; he was with Hercules throughout all battles, and did not leave Hercules behind just because he got scared. If the battle was to get rough, he stayed there with Hercules because they were best friends. If you really look into the Hercules movie, turns out Hercules had many strong allies, like all the gods in Mount Olympus. If Hercules needed a hand, he could also ask his father Zeus. Beowulf had a few enemies, like Grendel, who he then nearly killed until Grendel ran to his mother. His mother wanted vengeance against Beowulf, making her another enemy. "She 's taken revenge for your victory over Grendel. / For your strength, your mighty grip, and that monster 's / Death." (1334-1336) In the story we are told that Grendel 's mother wanted to get back at Beowulf for going after her son who is close to his death, making her a definite enemy. Then there is Hercules who had one specific enemy who had his own ways of making Hercules’ life miserable, and that is Hercules’ kinsman, Hades. Hades is also a god, who had two minions, Panic and Pain, who ran his dirty errands. When we see that there is a god whose full-time job was to ruin someone’s life, it shows that Hercules had more than enough to go against, and then when he succeeds it shows great strength that he can keep going. Beowulf would need more experience with
