In “The Watsons Go to Birmingham” the theme is perseverance. In the play, there is a march that happens in town and ends up getting about 1,000 kids arrested. Even though that many kids got arrested they kept participating in these marches. Another reason is, they made a deal that if one of them were to get arrested while marching they would go to jail in peace, violence is not the answer. “We decided to march for justice. But we promised each other that if we got arrested, we would go in peace.
