Compare And Contrast Cask Of Amontillado And The Masque Of The Red Death

Edgar Allen Poe had a difficult life. His mother, Foster mother, and his 1st wife Virginia had died from TB. Which makes his work often similar.
Edgar Allen Poe uses dark and suspicious setting. In “fall of the House of Usher” the author says “the whole of a dull, dark, and soundless day in the autumn of the year” the setting can create later on tension in the story. In “Masque of the Red Death” it says “the Red Death, had long devastated the country.” This adds to the suspicion of “The Masque of the red death”. In “Cask of Amontillado” he says “A thousand injuries of Fortunato, I had borne as best as I could.” Gives a suspicion to him and how he had gotten them injuries from Fortunato. In “The Black Cat” the quote “I loved that cat until that day” add a really dark suspicion to the story because you wonder what happened to the cat on that day. Edgar Allen Poe uses a depressing mood in majority of his stories. In “Masque of the Red Death” he makes the mood depressing by explaining the plague and how it had been so fatal. “The Red Death “had long devastated the country, no pestilence had ever been so fatal.” In “Cask of Amontillado” Edgar makes the depressing mood by saying “The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could,” and in “fall of the House of Usher” …show more content…
In “Masque of the Red Death “the main character is Prince Prospero. It says he’s “Prince Prospero was happy and sagacious.” The prince’s name is a spinoff of prosperity. Prosperity means wealth.
