His parents were mudered in a dark alley when he was a little boy. In the beginning of he story he is seen enjoying retired life. But it is clearly shown that Bruce is a man haunted by his own past. Moreover, Bruce is tormented by his inner self which is calling him out to put back on the cape and the suit. The temptation upon Bruce absorbs him subconsciously as evidenced by Alfred(the butler) asked him what happened to his moustache. But to him, he felt at home putting the suit back on. It seems to be a natural transition for him back into the crime-fighting mode. This version of The Caped crusader is casted based on many humane qualities. Thus, making it more realistic and deeper. This version is one of the darkest versions of the Dark Knight. Apart from the comic story line published at that time, Frank Miller brought out his version of the Dark Knight fantastically. This character is also different from the later graphic novel Frank Miller published on Batman called Batman: Year One. But few interesting plots are still seen in the graphic novel as in the main comics story line like the reason behind why Bruce gave up the cape and the suit because it caused the like of Jason
