Throughout the whole book the pigs use language that maintains fear over the animals. This also occurs in history and still in today's world leaders will use fear in language to gain and maintain power amongst people.
In Animal Farm by George Orwell, the pigs speeches use propaganda to maintain power over the other animals on the farm. Animal Farm is about animals living on an old English farm known as the Manor Farm. A man named Jones who spends most of his day’s drunk runs it. The animals make the decision to overthrow Jones. The Russian Revolution was when Stalin convinced the people of Russia to rebel against Trotsky. Trotsky was the ruler before Stalin. Stalin then was “elected” to become president. However he became a dictator and turned Russia into a fully communist country. Stalin had made many promises in many of his election speeches but failed to follow through on most of them. In Stalin speeches he often used propaganda. In 1941 Stalin made his Red Army speech in which he says “Germany is bleeding, her reserves of manpower are giving out, the spirit of indignation is spreading not only among the peoples of Europe who have fallen under the yoke of the German invaders but also among the German people themselves, who see no end to war.” When he gave this speech Germany was beating Russia in World War II. Yet nobody knew because Stalin used propaganda to convince his people Germany was “giving out”. Stalin also told his people that their “country is now many times richer than it was twenty-three years ago as regards industry, food and raw materials.” However he had no proof of this and could be completely making this up. The people couldn't check if it was true or not so Stalin knew he could say anything he wanted and he didn't have to have any proof. This is similar to Animal Farm when Napoleon would tell all the animals that they had more food than ever but had no proof of that.
