But this allows some people who do not work as hard to get the same amount of salary as the ones who are working really hard. By creating an iron curtain, Soviet Union divided Europe into west and east. In the west and the Soviet Union and its Communist one-party states in the east. In West Berlin, the curtain stopped the flow of all humanitarian supplies going in. In order to ensure the survival of the citizens, other western countries had to airlift food and supplies into the place. “All these famous cities…all are subjects…not only to soviet influence but to a very high and increasing measure of control from Moscow” (4). Any country that lies behind the iron curtain are controlled by Moscow which forces the countries to follow the Soviet Union’s way of thinking – communism. In document 13, a map is shown. Stalin is the leader of the Soviet Union at the time; he is described as a cruel and merciless leader. (12) As Konard Adenauer said: “If Stalin were to succeed…without too much destruction, he would then be able to exercise a decisive influence on France and Italy” (12). To Stalin, destruction is a must. He is willing to do anything to spread communism. “With the development of increasingly terrifying weapons of mass destruction, every individual faces the ever-present possibility of annihilation should the conflict enter the phase of total war” (15). Land expansion is needed in order to spread communism, therefore violent conquering was often seen. As the land expansions continue, development of weapons also increases. The newly develop weapons becomes more and more destructive which eventually will cause mass destruction and causalities in many lands.
