He compares the two together by saying, “Society is produced by our wants, and government by our wickedness;” This is one of the many examples that Paine singles out both society and government against each other in a way. In most of all cases when Paine compares the two he says that society is the better portion of the both. In the beginning of the second paragraph Thomas also says, “Society in every state is a blessing, but Government, even in its best state is but a necessary evil;” Thomas Paine compares the two saying that society is better since society accomplishes things when the people in the society work together as a whole and do amazing things, while the government is just there for more or less security reasons. Paine then thinks after this would happen these people would create laws that would rule them under their own circumstances. This is one of the many things that I agree of from Thomas Paine’s writing. I also agree on how he views society and government both separately and as a whole. I agree with Thomas Paine’s views and ideas on society more over than his thoughts about government in general. Thomas Paine viewed government as just a security blanket to society to protect them from their own selves. If there was no government the people in any society would start off with a few simple rules to follow so that there is no minor to major problems persisting in the group of people. In Thomas Paine’s example of a society of people living on an isolated island with no recollection of any type or form of government. Paine hypothesized that the people on the island would simply form rules to be more or less civil and not do anything to extreme. On Paine’s views on the government in general, I can agree on very few of his ideas, but there are some. The one thing that I can agree on is that the government is more or less just there for security. Paine views
