The Colour Bar is not an actual bar, but it is referring to the fact that people differentiate races in their minds. We know that she is talking about a certain mindset because she says that the bar “shows the meaner mind of moron kind.” This also shows that she associates racism with moronic thoughts. Another literary device that she uses is a rhyme pattern in this poem. It is not a bad thing, but it seems a bit childish. I think it could have been used to keep attention on the poem.
One of the best lines in this poem is, “But when a taunted child comes home in tears, fierce anger sears.” I like this line because it shows that she is not a woman who gives much thought to mean or hurtful comments. This is inspiring because it shows that nobody has to take mean comments to heart. I also like this line because it shows a bit of protectiveness over the young children that cannot help but be saddened by the cruel words of others.
Over all, this poem is an original view of racism that essentially blames Christianity. This poem shows the opinion of an Australian aboriginal who hates the fact that racism still exists. It is an interesting point of view, and she is not completely wrong in some of her thoughts. Christianity is not the reason why racism exists, but it does not matter. Racism should not happen, no matter what it happens to be caused
