This year I achieved a fairly prestigious award. I had received the National School Color Guard Award. This award is achieved by sheer talent and being a good person by helping others out. This essay will go over my story working up to achieving the award and what my take on it is. The National School Color Guard Award should be what every member of any color guard team tries to achieve. It is also extremely easy to achieve if the person attempting to achieve it is willing to put in the time. This award is achieved by not only talent, but also from helping others out, and just having a good attitude in general. This award is achieved by meeting all of these requirements. last school year, I, much like most of the other seasoned guard members, had been working our tails off to get the new members to know how to do the fundamental tricks. When I saw the flyer for color guard my eighth-grade year I was perplexed as it didn't specify what color guard was other than an exciting activity that lets you be apart of marching band. I was skeptical that I would actually like color guard but at the first clinic, I knew I had found a family and exciting activity to pursue. Watching the upperclassmen toss rifles, sabers, and flags with such ease and confidence made me excited to learn and achieve that level of confidence. This year will be my fourth year in marching band, I am still in Color Guard and it is easily one of the activities I’m most passionate about. My love to perform on the marching field takes away the anxiety I usually have, throughout the years my confidence has risen…

Being born to and raised by immigrant parents, I observed a daily desire to give me all that they didn’t have and provide pathways for me to follow my dreams. I gained a respect for hard work as well as an ideology of looking out for those around me. The sacrifices they took to send me to private school and ensure that I do well in life motivates me in my plans for the future. It is their inability to live their lives as they pleased and follow their dreams that inspires me to attend and graduate from an institution in which all those attending strive in their fields of study. Due to their dedication, I want to succeed in life and provide a better life for both myself and my family, allowing them to live the rest of their lives without worry, as well as making a difference in the world around me.…
