My family has struggled financially for a vast majority of my life. My dad has been a plumber since before I was born, and still is. He worked for a small local business for approximately ten to fifteen years. My mom was taking college classes while also being a stay at home mother to my two brothers and I. When I was eight years old, my dad was fired from his job due to disagreements between him and the new owner. My dad was really good friends with the previous owner, but when he retired his nephew took over the business. The nephew immediately fired my dad, leaving our family without an income. My parents were forced to file for bankruptcy, and we lost our car and many other possessions. We couldn't afford to pay rent at our house, and we were soon forced to find somewhere else to live. We didn't have the money to rent out a new place to live, so we moved in with my aunt and uncle until my dad found a new job. While he was searching for a job, he worked for his cousin, cleaning trash trucks after they ran their routes. My parents, my two brothers, and I lived in the basement of my aunt and uncle's house for about two weeks. I was forced to share a bed with my younger brother for the duration of us living with my aunt and uncle. My dad decided that rather than finding a new job, he was going to begin his own plumbing business. My dad began to construct his very own business, and began competing with the company he was originally with. My older brother and I used to work with him, even at a younger age. I was twelve when I first started working with him, and continue to work with him today. His business was becoming successful, and was allowing us to move into a new house. Once we got settled, and were starting to live a comfortable lifestyle, my mom went back to school to finish her degree. My family struggled with only one income, and often times couldn’t afford to pay our bills. My dad owned his own business, and he didn’t have a guaranteed income every …show more content…

This will help me prepare to be a college student because I will know to be smart with my money, especially when I do not have money to spend. I will try my hardest academically, but if need be, I can turn to my peers for help. I can get tutoring, have study sessions, and talk to my professors to help further myself in class. My goals for the future are to maintain my grades, and graduate with a highly sought after grade point average. I hope for my studies in college to allow me to get a job and become successful in my field of choice. My main goal will be to stay on top of my work, and not to fall behind. Personal Statement Almost everyone had a rod in hand as they walked through the main street headed for the pier or docks to try and reel in a tasty morsel for dinner. In my small fishing village surrounded by serene mountains and lush waters, I grew up distant from many of life’s amenities and creature comforts. Surrounded by family and relatives, I lived in a capsule of love. Little did I know that in several years, I would be on a plane bound for the United States, uncertain about my future but resolve in my dreams.…

My goals right now as a High School student is getting me exposed to college classes and to preparing myself for College. Since the beginning of my freshman year of High School my mindset consisted of being in the top 10 percent and taking Pre-AP classes because I knew I wanted to go to college in the future. I knew taking Pre-AP classes would be a challenge for me, but it gave me the resources to become a better student in my academics. For example the teachers in Pre-AP expect more from their students and give out Home-work and projects and set deadlines when the assignments are due.…

I went from a young boy out of Doula, Cameroun, who did not know a word of English, to a young adult who was a finalist at Roberto Clemente Middle school national geography bee, to an adult who earned straight A’s, honor roll, scholar athlete of the month and took IB classes from my community college while still in high school. Coming from a low income family, my mom struggled a lot with the bills, and our house was unfortunately taken by the government because we were no longer able to afford the mortgage. For most of my life I have watched my mom, a single mom, going back to school, working double shifts, sleepless nights studying, and borrowing money to pay our rent just to make sure my brothers and I were comfortable enough. She hated the idea of consenting us to work during the school year because she wanted my siblings and me to focus in school and bring home good…

While at a Community College, I have had time to grow and mature into a finer young adult than I came out of High School. I learned to live on my own and take care of myself, while continuing to acquire training and education. It was also a time I took to figure who I am and who I want to be. With that in mind, I have found that I desire to continue growing at a different institution. While I have learned a significant amount of things in my current college and enjoyed every minute of it, I will be graduating from its program soon and wish to explore opportunities elsewhere.…

My advice to high school senior or even juniors, sophomores, and freshmen, no matter how low or high they make on the ACT, they should apply for college. You don’t need to know your major or career goals right away so don’t let anyone tell you that you should have it figured out right about now. After a person graduate, he or she can plan their life out and set goals. It’s never too late to apply or attend any college. If I can do it and keep motivating myself to get where I want to be, I know other people can…

I include these plans along with others into my future legacy since they are still part of the unknown. I hope to be very impacting on all aspects of my college experiences along with my future employment.…
