College Essay About Nicknames

My full name is Mackenzie Anne McDonough. My Dad picked out both my first and middle name. He wanted my name to be Irish, so he looked up Irish names. My middle name, however isn’t Irish and he picked it because it’s my grandma's (my mom’s mom) name who passed when my mom was 16. My dad hates nicknames unless of course he’s the one who says it. Despite what my dad thinks, I have tons of nicknames including Kenz, Mack, Mackenz, Kenzo, Big Mac, Mackers, Max, ect. I would say the only people who actually call me Mackenzie are not as close friends, adults, or my family when I get in trouble. My favorite nickname would have to be Mack. I like this one the best because it’s short and more masculine rather than kenz which is more feminine because …show more content…
I was originally planned as a boy so the name that I was going to have would have been Carson, picked by my mom. She had the idea of having two twin boys with the names Connor and Carson. If I could pick my name for a girl I would choose Mae because it’s short and it’s not very common. If I was I boy I would want my name to be Hayes because I think it’s such a pretty name and it’s very different. Mackenzie is an Irish surname and means son of a handsome ruler. It was originally a male's name but now is very common for both genders. The meaning of Mackenzie in a girl sense is little princess. Many would agree suits me well seeing I’m the only girl in my family and I’m usually favored. A lot of troubles that I’ve acquired with my name is people spelling it incorrectly, people pronouncing it wrong, and when I was younger it was difficult for me to spell. When Connor and I were younger he would refer to me as “Ken” because he wasn’t able to pronounce my name. To this day, he still calls be that sometimes. I love that he calls me Ken because he’s the only person that does and Connor and I share a different bond than anyone I’ve ever met because we are

My parents’ reasoning was that I could go by Maggie when I was young, and when I get older, I could use the Margaret because that name has a more mature feel. This plan was smart but was not shared with me till second grade. On my first day of school, my teacher gave us a project to ensure that we could spell our own names. I assumed this project would be a simple task until she called out my name, as well as another classmate named Frankie’s name. She told us that we would have to spell out our full names.…

My name, Jenna Lee Wood, is a traditional Southern double name that comes from my mother's side of the family. After a brief interview with my mom, I learned that my first name comes from the 1980's soap opera, "Dallas". My parents loved the name Jenna from the start and knew that if I was a girl, I would definitely be named Jenna. The real struggle came with the middle name, because I was the first girl of my generation of the Wood's; everyone felt that I absolutely had to be named after the Wood side considering it was an abomination that my first name did not automatically come from said side. The only 21st century name was Katherine, so my name would have been Jenna Katherine-…

The name Kaitlyn was first introduced by my older sister. There wasn’t really much meaning behind picking this name but was said in the nick of time before I was named Ashlee. I couldn’t really get out of being named Ashlee either because it became my middle name. My mother chose to name me Kaitlyn because she thought it was a very uncommon name but little did she know that many other mothers had the same idea as she did around the same time I was born, give or take a couple years.
