Expertise can be defined as a special skill or knowledge that someone has. In life people strive to gain expertise in all kinds of fields. I would not consider myself an expert at anything, but I am striving for expertise in many things right now. I strive for expertise in everything that I do. The closest that I have ever come to expertise would have to be in fishing. For years my father has taught me valuable lessons on how to enjoy the life that I live. One of the best ways to enjoy life, would have to be fishing. There is just such a deep connection with nature and of who we truly are. The fishing knowledge and techniques that I have been taught will most definitely stick with me for the rest of my life.
It all began when I was just a young boy. I didn’t have a clue about what the true meaning of fishing was. I only saw it as a way to pass time and a way to get a farmers tan. The fish and its life, which is consistently mentioned throughout the story, is a representation of the family’s unity. The narrator first mentions the fish in a flashback at around the same time that she is reflecting back on her memories of her father and their daily routine. The father is the one who brings in the live fish and dumps it in the sink. This is notable because at this point in the narrative, the family is still seen as a cohesive unit and this parallels with how the fish is still alive. The next point in the narrative where the fish is mentioned is right after certain problems are shown to plague the family, such as the obvious language barrier that separates the parents from their children and the problem of the father and the brother’s conflicting attitudes towards the son’s unwillingness to keep hold of his Malaysian heritage.…

For some, fishing isn't just a hobby, its a way to survive. Not only are panfish the most targeted species, perch, crappie, and bluegill provide an excellent source of healthy food, and fun for all anglers. Currently, the total panfish possession limit for the state of Minnesota is 10 crappies, 20 bluegills, and 20 perch. Despite previous surveys showing the current possession limits are okay, I think Minnesota should raise the panfish limit because some people rely on fish as a main source of food and income.…
