Today, I am a few months away from being the first generation to graduate from high school and seek higher education. Absolutely nothing in my life ever came easy, not my grades, not my honors, not my awards; however, the foundation to my success, is my parents. I am a person who possesses the power to forge her own future. My actions dictate where I will go and what I will accomplish. I've never had luxury, not even a house to call my own. However, I’ve never lacked a home filled with love, support and protection. I am a warrior. During a crucial year of high school, junior year, I fought fiercefully to obtain higher grades, even when I had to get a job to help my family. I spent late nights studying, finishing up homework, reading for lectures, willing to do what had to be done. While this could have intimidated me, it is not a characteristic I possess. I will not waver to struggles, neither to the prospect of failure, even though just like many others, I too have fallen in my battle. However, I recover and stand taller every time. I have overcome adversity using my strong spirit; what once held me down is what now fortifies me. Furthermore, my most valued possession is my family. My parents have provided me with all the knowledge they have so as to be ready for my battle. They have disciplined me, and I respectfully obey in order to get through life understanding where I stand. I owe my accomplishments to them. They pushed me to focus on what is important; they ensured to make it very clear what my path to success is. I must not detour from what I pursue. And if this is the only thing God gives me, I am grateful. I do not look back, for the important only lies
