College Admissions Essay: My Involvement In High School

Improved Essays
Over the years I have worked very hard in high school to achieve at the highest level. My wide variety of involvement in school, sports, and the community has made my me who I am. The time I have put in to be successful in all these areas as I received scholarship offers to play football in college, qualified for state in FBLA, and even danced on stage at Dancing with the O Club Stars have all made me who. Despite stressful nights I ultimately chose to follow the school I’ve always wanted to go to and give up sports which is The University of Wisconsin–Madison. Even though I have done well in all my sports as I will earn eight letters when I graduate, I take much more pride and commitment to my academics in class and in clubs. Throughout my span at the high school I have stayed organized and responsible earning over a 3.9 GPA in every semester. My rigor has also been very strong as I will graduate with high honors. Honor classes such as AP Psychology AP Statistics have greatly helped myself develop better habits studying and preparing for class. In school I have also dedicated myself in class to produce my best work, and to also involve myself in a variety of clubs. I have been a member of Spanish Club, Link Crew, FBLA, and O Club. The academic level I have achieved and clubs I have been part of have made me very appreciative of all the opportunities Onalaska High School has given me. Starting at a very young age along with my academics I picked up multiple sports playing football, basketball, golf, and baseball growing up. …show more content…
Although I am not the best at some of them such as basketball, I look to enjoy my time there and realize that the end is near to come. I approach every day of practice with a positive attitude even after a long day when coach is mad at us. In football and other times one of my top attributes was represented everyday which is leadership. In football I felt I truly brought the team together as whole, but especially on the offensive side of the football. Knowing the position I play I knew I had to be the best leader I could for our team to be successful. We ultimately won the conference and the satisfaction I received was immaculate. Although in playoffs I broke my arm and couldn’t play the rest of the game it truly made me feel blessed that I got to play quarterback for this team and represent our school the way I did. Maintaining a balanced lifestyle was also key for me so along with school, and sports I felt the need to volunteer in the community a lot whether it is through sports, the legion, YMCA, or my church. Through sports I have volunteered at many baseball, football, and basketball camps for younger kids to help them develop and learn the game. Through the Legion I have volunteered for multiple fish fries and also volunteered during legion days. There are many great opportunities to volunteer through the YMCA as I have helped with multiple of their specialty runs and kids football events. Although I volunteer often what I feel most involved in is church. Through church and my journey to be confirmed sophomore year I have volunteered a lot. In the spring our church hosts fish fries which I often volunteered at along with helping setting up christmas lights and trees. Helping the community and being involved create

In high school, I have never been involved with athletics as much as I had wished. I did not much affinity towards our sports teams either. Athletics seemed more of a requirement and a hassle rather than something that had a lot of value in it. At Syracuse, I would want to become someone who doesn’t see sports in that light. I want to be involved with sports at the university, both playing and cheering, and have a school and sports teams that I can feel vast amounts of pride for, even after I become an alumni.…

Through my experience, my freshman and sophomore years as a musician were terrifying. On top of the shock of the new atmosphere at school, I had to play my instrument with and in front of others, which was quite a stretch for me at the time. I would always beat myself up about minute mistakes I had glorified during rehearsals, playing tests, and especially auditions. However, after I did not make an Illinois Allstate ensemble my junior year, my approach to these nerve-wracking situations completely changed. Instead of thinking failing negatively, those uncomfortable experiences actually made me improve as I had taken more auditions.…

I have been volunteering at my local library ever since my high school career has begun. Over the summer, I motivate little kids to read: I convince them to comprehend the various stories read, and in return they are rewarded with various prizes. During the weekends, I assist children with the material they may be struggling with in school. Every now and then, a few kids would bring in their homework, while others brought in either textbooks or their notes.…

High school for me is very different then the college life that I have experienced so far. In high school there is so much judgement by the things you wear, who you talk to, and the things you do. But in college no one really cares there isn’t time to judge people it doesn’t matter to them. High school could be super brutal to some people because they don’t fit in they aren’t the typical student and others make sure that they know it. I feel that in college there is so many different types of people that everyone fits in there is a group or something for everyone to be a part of.…
