It is through these processes that the mind tries to organize itself so that an individual can function at their best. There have been a number of instances in history that have led to the advancement of this particular field in psychology. The term cognition according to Burnham, Sabia, & Langan (2014) refers to all the processes that transform, reduce, elaborate, recover, store, and use sensory information in the brain. Cognition is a daily occurrence that is in every aspect of a person’s life and in everything they do. According to Hinne, Janssen, Heskes, & van Gerven (2015) the brain is divided into clusters that help us to share and retain information also known as connectomics. With perception it is important to recognize the senses of sight, touch, taste, smell, and hearing. With these processes it helps them to begin to try to understand the world around them. Using theses senses allows them to interpret different stimuli and situations around them and draw conclusions based on it. Cognitive psychology tends to want to focus on the particular ways that a person may interpret events and then how that affects their behavior. By gaining the most basic understanding of how someone interprets their environment and different stimuli helps to determine how people perceive different events and different emotions (Morris & Hasson 2010). Many believe that this is one main reasons that artificial intelligence has a long way to go because it has no physical senses and it can only go by what is inputted into it. Perception is essentially looking at the physical environment and how it influences people to navigate their way through it (Morris & Hasson
