What is coal and how is it used:
Most people know coal as a fossil fuel which is used to produce around 40 percent of the world's electricity.1 It’s a flammable black or brown sedimentary rock, and is made mostly of organic carbon. Coal is a fossil fuel of sedimentary origin that has formed by coalification of vegetation over millions of years. Coal is used primarily as an energy source, either for heat or electricity. It was once heavily used to heat homes and power locomotives and factories. Bituminous coal is also used to produce coke for making steel and other industrial process heating. Coal is a combustible black or brownish-black sedimentary rock usually occurring in rock strata in layers or veins called coal beds or coal seams. …show more content…
Coal is formed from plant life buried in the Earth millions of years ago. Like Petroleum and natural gas, it is a carbon-based fossil fuel. Coal is called a fossil fuel because it was formed from the remains of vegetation that grew as long ago as 400 million years. Coal can be extracted from the earth either by surface mining or underground mining. Once coal has been extracted, it can be used directly (for heating and industrial processes) or to fuel power plants for electricity. If coal is less than 61 meters (200 feet) underground, it can be extracted through surface …show more content…
Coal energy is very affordable due to its stable price unlike any other forms of energy in the market.
2. The abundance of coal energy is in a large number.
3. It is also easy to burn.
4. Coal energy is a renewable form of energy.
5. Reliability is entailed and presented in this form of energy.
6. Aside from its reliability, coal energy is also inexpensive unlike any other sources of energy.
7. This form of energy is producing high energy upon its combustion process.
8. The power generation scale of coal is great that makes it possible for building a range of sizes of generation plants.
9. Coal is used to build power stations in different parts of the world since it is a fossil fuel as long as there are huge amounts of it.
2. 1. Coal energy is producing tremendous amount of carbon emissions that results in climate change and global warming.
3. 2. Coal burning is considered not environmental friendly due to the production of harmful by-products like nitrogen, carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide.
4. 3. Coal burning can cause pollution to the environment like acid rain.
5. 4. Coal energy is fast depleting because many people consume a large amount of it inefficiently.
6. 5. This form of energy is not a renewable
