Dolly was the only successful clone out of 277 other experiments. This was a the first successful cloning of a mammal that had been created using an adult somatic cell. This helped pave the way for the future cloning of other mammals and brought the cloning of humans a little closer to becoming a reality, for example,in 1999 the University of Hawaii announced they were close to cloning the first male mouse, all that was needed was the tail, and in 2000 Scottish scientists announced that they had successfully cloned a litter of five piglet. Dolly the Sheep is very known, she was the first cloned from an adult cell and actually lived for seven years after being cloned. Overall Dolly the Sheep has created much controversy that has lead to people trying to ban cloning all together. But before Dolly, in 1987, three scientists took a cell from a cow embryo and gave it an electric shock. The cell then started to multiply and the outcome was two twin calves. One was named fusion and the other was copy. This was a major step in the cloning of Dolly. Of all the experiments, the most recently known experiment was in 2013, when some scientists took the skin cells of a baby that had a rare genetic disorder and combined it with a donated egg cell. After many attempts and shocks, the result was a human stem cell that could one day lead to human …show more content…
People 's main reason for opposing the idea is that cloning would violate human rights and the right to every human to have unique identity. The people that oppose the idea of human cloning have some good points. Some worry that the world is already divided on color and race and that clones would cause this to add even more diffusions between the human race. One judgement day reason to oppose cloning is that they are worried that the created clones may become smarter than the creators then the created will try and destroy the creators. Among some disbelievers are religious leaders that say human cloning would be putting the creation of humans into the hands of man, creating a challenge for the authority of a higher, supreme being. Though nobody has ever tested the cloning of humans, when they have successfully done it on animals, the cloned animals have always came out with defects. Those we’re some of the main opposing ideas that come up in discussions in whether to stop it or keep it
