This quote represents Alex’s character because in the quote he questions whether he will be cured of his evil ways even though he doesn’t want to change for a bigger part of the novel. This quote also shows the struggle that Alex has to endure after the experiment. He is not able enjoy himself and go out and commit crimes with his friends. It is towards the end of the novel that Alex finally manages to transform his thoughts of immaturity and realize that there is more to his life. He realizes this through his old friends Dim and Pete. Dim became a police officer for the state and Pete managed to secure a family. Alex finds comfort in the idea that he can obtain a family with one child whom he can relate all of his experience and life lessons that he learned in his immaturity. In the last chapter of the novel, Alex grows out of his immaturity and realizes his mistakes.
