The riders were beaten, thrown in jail, firebombed, treated very unfairly, etc… The Freedom rides and the attacks towards the riders, what they had to face, changed the way the world viewed African Americans. Other countries were seeing what was happening in the United States, the unfair treatment and the mass violence towards the blacks in America, where all men were supposedly created equal and what was occurring wasn’t showing that at all. Fast acting authorities would have help prevent some of the violence. The attacks could have been lessened if there wasn’t such a prejudice bias in the law enforcement back when these events were occurring. The violence inflicted on the Freedom Riders was horrible. Although if it didn’t occur then attention wouldn’t have been drawn to the movement and in turn segregation of interstate transportation facilities, including bus terminals would not have ended when it did.
The Violence against the Freedom Riders made the world have compassion for the African Americans. Making them change their principles towards the African Americans. It helped make a way for African Americans to be active citizens in America. Also it changed the way people viewed blacks.
