According to the MSN program conceptual framework, a nurse detective uses clinical imagination along with science to evaluate deviations from the expected to prevent or control adverse reactions (WGU, 2013) To apply the role of “Nurse as Detective” I will apply the model element safety and quality. Working as a Clinical Coordinator on an Orthopedic unit I recognize how vital safety and quality are for patient care. Utilizing this element will reduce risks to providers, patients, and families by using analysis of effectiveness of systems that are in place, as well as individual performances. This can be achieved simply by applying the nursing process.…
Joey Sanders is a 10 year old boy whose mother had type 2 diabetes; she recently passed away from a heart attack. This influenced Joey’s father to bring Joey in for screenings and tests to assess his risk for developing the health conditions his mother had. The nurse asked the father if there was any health history that is to be taken under consideration while examining Joey, who she found to be obese. The father stated there was a history of obesity and type 2 diabetes within the family. After reviewing Joey’s health history, the nurse was concerned about him developing diabetes.…
In this assignment I will be evaluating care strategies that can be used initially to help and support the individual disorder and the disorder I will be discussing will be Dementia. The positive aspects in having patients in a hospital setting it allows them to care for by a nurse that’s nearby. Also this strategy would help the individual a lot and this strategy works. A nurse has special training and background in caring for and teaching people with diabetes. A nurse works closely alongside with the doctor this would be in a hospital setting , for example it would be the nurses role to keep the doctor updated when the individual is due for a blood test so that the doctor can refer the individual for a blood test.…

It is important to assess and identify the gaps of knowledge deficits regarding the medication compliance, cardiac diet, enough rest, and dietary supplement. After the gaps of knowledge deficits are identified, specific teaching should be provided to Mrs. Franklin-Jones. For example, since Mrs. Franklin-Jones concerns that she forgot to take medications sometimes, the nurse should instruct her to use a weekly medication divider box and place the box on the dinner table, which will reminder to take the medication whenever she is ready to have a meal. Another good example of teaching for Mrs. Franklin-Jones is to provide print-outs for cardiac diet and research of benefits and risks of drinking bush tea. The nurse should provide comprehensive education regarding the identified gap of knowledge deficits during the discharge…
Nurses must be able to have full knowledge of Type 2 Diabetes and the Hispanic cultural in order to educate this group. By holding presentations in the Hispanic community within schools, churches, and homes nurses can help fight the increased development of Type 2 Diabetes. Solution to the Problem More importantly the solution to decrease the development of Type 2 Diabetes among the Hispanic community, would be to hold presentations to educate everyone on the prevention and management of diabetes. Explain the Most Common Health Disparities Found Among Clients Receiving Care at Your Clinical Site. Thus far, each and every patient I have assisted in providing care to, in the care management office at Penobscot Community Health Care – Brewer Medical Center, has had diabetes mellitus. In my service learning, I grew an understanding on the upstream factors in health that effect how healthcare should be provided for different group of people. Medication and surgery are the basic ways of treating symptoms, but an upstream approach is needed. Without treating the core root that is causing the health issue, medications are simply being prescribed with no real effect. Understanding and attempting to address a patient’s diet, exercise, living conditions, and social factors must be a part of treating the overall patient, because in the end of the day the patient is a human and not just a patient who needs medication.…

A nurse caring for this patient will help that patient understand their new limited mobility and how to return to their pre hospital lifestyle the best they can. Another great example of this model is a diabetic patient. In order to live a normal life with diabetes, a patient must be instructed how to take their diabetic medication, what kind of diet to eat, and the signs and symptoms of high or low blood sugar. Without the nurse’s help and specific interventions for the patient, the patient may not be able to return to their normal level of functioning.…
