Chris was deployed for the first time in Iraq, he and his team were sent to stop Iraqis from blowing up oil refineries. After returning he got interested in becoming a sniper which required more training most of which was navigating and stealth. It was during his second deployment when Chris started to become more known, he had the most confirmed kills by the end of the deployment. During this deployment, Chris and his team were paired with marines to lead an attack on Fallujah. It was during this attack that Chris witnessed an 18-year-old marine dying in his arms. Chris was later sent home where he broke his hand while training with a friend. Chris goes home for some time when he learns that his daughter has cancer after she beings treatment Chris is sent back to camp. Chris left the seals in august though they continued to offer more and more to get him to stay. Chris, in the end, writes about how he feels about his experiences and what he regrets, he regrets are the people he couldn't save, not the people he killed, that is how he defined himself. Chris could do nothing but watch as a young marine died in his arms. “He died right then. He didn’t even live long enough to hear my lies about how everything was going to be okay.”(pg 170) This demonstrates the trait of loss because people lose friends/family and can’t do anything to help, which is how Chris feels when he attempts to save him but in his head, he knew that he couldn't. This is an issue that everyone will at one point encounter in their life but someone who enters the military such as Chris Kyle might encounter this a lot more often. Throughout the book, Chris also goes through a lot of stress when his wife calls him to tell him that his daughter has cancer. Chris was talking to his wife taya and learns that his daughter has leukemia. “I am not entirely sure what all she said, but what I heard was, leukemia. Cancer.”(pg 301) Stress is something people face every day and can be caused by many things, Chris finding out that his daughter has cancer had to be one of the toughest. Chris also had this news dropped on him while deployed overseas which is a lot like a common life you can't predict when you will encounter a stressful
