One of the major social issues that are affecting the world today, is the obesity found in children. Just in America alone, has one of the highest rates of childhood obesity in the world. Since 2012 “The percentage of children aged 6-11 years in the United States who were obese increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 18% in 2012. Because unhealthy food cost less than healthy food, parents with lower incomes are forced to buy what is cheaper, rather than what is healthier. This is something that can be easily changed by a decision from the parents, yes healthier food costs more, but it is worth it. This is what Americans don’t realize how important it is to eat healthy and is the main reason why America is one of the most overweight country’s in the world. Childhood obesity is also affected by the child 's parents and the way they act. The effect of parents plays an important part in childhood obesity. They are a role model to their children. Because parents are obese, the children think it is okay to be like their parents and therefore, let themselves become obese. The parents get them whatever food they want. So this is a bad parenting as they are letting their child become overweight and is not doing anything about it. While allowing them to look like themselves, which is a reflection on the parents. Another reason for why childhood obesity is so high is because we live in a world full of technology. Because there is so much technology in the world, children think it is better to sit inside and play video games all day, subsequently not going outside to exercise or play a sport. Children need to learn that there is more to life then video games and television. They are spending all their time in their rooms playing video games and not socializing or getting outside and doing
