One summer after a family swimming adventure, Vaniya had shown signs of an illness that could not be contained at home. After numerous phone calls and visits to her pediatrician, the mutual decision was made to take her to the E.R. Somewhere around the fourteenth or fifteenth hour, frustration was rearing it 's ugly head just around the corner, when finally the doctor came in and said that they were going to admit her into the hospital. For the purpose of this discussion topic paper, I reviewed the article Rituximab as a treatment for severe atopic eczema: failure to improve in three consecutive patients. The article discussed the study of three consecutive patients with severe atopic eczema (red, itchy skin) that they treated with rituximab infusions, but the infusions failed to improve the condition. The article also mentions three other case studies that varied in results. Considering the small sample used in the main study of this article and the contradicting findings of other sited studies, I do not find that the main study, alone, is an adequate one to draw any type of final conclusion about whether or not rituximab is a successful method of treatment for severe atopic eczema.…
Senior Brag Sheet Career Choice: I plan to double major in mechanical engineering and finance, but still face some uncertainty in this plan. My interests developed mainly from the push of my parents. Ever since I was a child, the overarching career I was pushed towards was engineer or doctor, so I pushed myself to learn topics that would better support these ideas. Classes such as Scitech gave me an understanding of what engineers do which provided me with a great deal of interest. Other clubs such as Science Olympiad and TEAMS have also given me experiences that have fostered this interest in engineering with competitions and processes of creating something.…

Society has its way of taking illness into its own hands and transforming it into a metaphorical monster that may or may not be easily contained through medication, alongside social awareness. There are many well-known stigmas that surround life-altering diseases such as cancer, as well as HIV. However, there are many stereotypes that surround conditions such as allergies or asthma, which are taken less seriously. I will address the latter, in a somewhat serious, yet comically story about how I found out I had asthma that is both exercise and allergen induce.…
In order to fulfill your complete wellness capacity, one must have intellectual wellness on their family history. Throughout my study of my family health history list, I was able to come up with roughly 20 different problems that appear in my immediate paternal and maternal families. In order to stay at optimum health, I looked deeper into asthma and allergies, cardiovascular disease, cancer, mental illness, joint issues, diabetes, birth defects, and other problems to figure out what I can do to prevent them. When I was first diagnosed with asthma in elementary school, my doctor always told me that asthma, allergies, and eczema went together.…
We have established that an asthma attack is a frightening situation. The only thing more frightening would be to face this alone. In fact, a recent study revealed a positive effect on the symptoms of asthma by perceived social support and persons with less perceived social support experienced more asthma related symptoms (Smyth, Zawadski, Santuzzi and Filipkowski, 2014). The answer would be to improve a patient’s perception of their social support as this could be useful in the treatment of chronically ill patients.…
How much lotion is too much? In my experience, although I'm not a top score student contender, I say I would be in top the 99th percentile in lotion depletion. As a child, I was plagued with severe eczema, it covered my whole body like a lethal venom coursing through my skin. My face was flakier than the most exquisite of artisan made pastries, my arms like sleeves of scaly snake hide, and my entire body was a graveyard of dead skin. I essentially lived as a walking stick of butter because I remember every morning before school my mother would strip me down and slather heaps of sticky Vaseline all over my body.…
