-A characteristic of tourism is perishability, this relates to Real Journeys because once you have brought and used your ticket for the Real Journeys trip you may not use that same ticket again by another person. Same goes for the customer service you will receive on the Real Journeys trip, you will never get that exact customer service back again. You will never have identical customer service.

The set started with an army of workers - set builders, landscapers and a thatcher or two who spent nine months on the farm during 1999 preparing the film set. This was after Peter Jacksons general manager Russell Alexander spotted the location and knew immediately that the farm was a perfect match for the village. Since the Hobbits and film-makers moved out, the Alexander family have developed a successful tourism business that runs alongside their traditional farming operation. The set has developed so much and is a very popular company which brings tourists into New Zealand. There is also a café onsite now which is very popular for the hungry tourists after a long day of walking. The farm offers products such as Lamb, Beef and Wool to tourists. New Zealand recently used 100% middle earth as a campaign and this was a hit! We used this campaign to represent and focus on converting the international tourist and target markets attention to New Zealand by the country starring in The Hobbit Trilogy.
