Feudalism: Military One of the most important factors of feudalism was the military. The Knights )were members of the military. Their role was to fight and protect the king. The military also contained ex-Carolingian soldiers and tribal warriors who became knights. (Pattie)Knights were highly trained specialized warriors in the Military.(GECOSAF4) To be a knight, a young man would have to go through years of training. The vassals were also a key part of the military because they were the king's protection and fought in battles.A vassals job was to protect the king from being killed (Pattie). They were put into secret group during break battles.(GECOSAF5). Vassals owed the lords their military services and were loyal to him (Pattie). It was very important to be loyal to the leader because feudalism rotated around being loyal(Pattie) Chivalry knights very very important to the system. Chivalric knights were very loyal and would even die for there lords (Pattie) The knights had to be skilled with their swords while on the ground and with daggers and bows while on horseback. Another key feature of chivalry was it demand for honorable behavior to the lord which meant being a clean fighter, respecting the enemy, and aiding Knights That is how both the knights and vassals connect with the military. Culture Many people have called the religion in the medieval time” the age of faith” because of how religious everyone was. The clergy had to read, write and speak Latin.In church the services were given in Latin.(Hinds).Very few people were able to understand the services because they could not read, write or speak Latin. People would also not understand the Bible because it was originally written in Latin and people who weren't part of the clergy church didn’t understand Latin (Hinds) Also every person went through sacraments. The medieval Christians received sacraments from the church (Hinds)Sacraments were ceremonies that demonstrated God’s grace and bestowed it on those taking part (Hinds) There were many sacraments people received throughout life.(Hinds) Some are baptism, confirmation and marriage.That is how the religion affected the system of feudalism. Also the great chain of being was very important to their culture. The great chain of being was the whole reason why this system ran. The great chain of being was a system which God put you on earth to do your job and made it so all people weren't equal (Lenehan). It gave them jobs,laws, punishments and rewards.Everyone in the military was rewarded land. The monks helped feudalism because they kept records and the happenings of the times..(BS-3)Monks worked in the monasteries as farmers and scribes. They also spent many hours praying.(BS-2) Feudalism was a system in the middle ages where people were ranked by the social structure. If you gave into the system then you would receive from the system.
