Seein’ the Real Monsters by Genevieve Fernandes A couple weeks had passed since Jem had broken his arm, or rather, since Mr. Ewell had broken it for him. He had spent most of his days sleeping in his thin, white cot, surrounded by books, papers, pens and a few toys, courtesy of Atticus. In the beginning, Jem was restless and pleaded with Atticus to let him go outside, but Atticus was adamant that he stay in bed and entertain himself with what he had. Near the large setting sun, warm golden light shone through large open castle windows, each intricately decorated with elegant carvings in metal. The remaining light beams radiated over the large city, with equally beautiful and perfect buildings with twisting roads and busy citizens. Far away, separating the perfect city where new trees were growing, tall grasses were flourishing and odd species of animals were thriving in new forests. A large cliff, most likely a fault that was pushed to soar in the cold sky, was grinding over the lower plate.…

In an unusual, unfortunate turn of events, the prank had backfired. Well, not entirely backfired, for backfired would imply that Peter 's perpetually blushing cheeks were not painted with the soft white of a cream pie thanks to the Prewitt 's, Marlene 's heavy hand did not hit both Sirius and Peter in one swift arm movement and the Iguana that escaped from a region on James ' body we must not discuss did not scamper across the floor with its newly found freedom, all acts, of which, had occurred that fine Sunday afternoon. The 'backfiring ' part of the prank was not within its execution, but rather its repercussions. Where most pranks usually leave a lasting impact upon each individual; Remus still shudders at the thought of his purple face, James - to…
