1.Cherry explained that Socs are more sophisticated, “cool to the point of not feeling anything.” She said she would be talking to her friend and not mean half the stuff she is saying. Socs are always going and going and going and never asking where. They have more then they ever want, they don’t want anything else, so they look for something to want. Socs are always searching for something to satisfy themselves.
Pony may have said that he that he doesn’t like how the greasers are too violent. They are always fighting whether it be with themselves or with the Socs. Cherry wants to feel something and Pony doesn’t want to feel anything. It is different because Ponyboy lives in poverty, and Cherry has all the money she likely could ever want. Ponyboy has a much more dangerous lifestyle while Cherry would never have to worry about getting jumped. She would have to worry just about grades and who is asking her to a dance.
2. Pony drops the broken bottle in the first encounter with the Socs because he could never cut anyone. And he also didn’t want Cherry to look at him they way the girl did in class when he pulled out his switchblade. He didn’t want her to look at him like he was a violent person. If there had been a bottle in the park when they whole group was together I don’t think he would have used it. Johnny obviously was not intending to kill the Soc. He was just trying to free Pony. But this falls under the one of the two categories of manslaughter: Criminal negligence. Criminal negligence is when the homicide was the result of an act or a failure to act that showed wanton or reckless disregard for the lives of others. Johnny could have used less force to only injure the kid, not kill him. An act is generally considered negligent if a reasonable person would have foreseen that the action would endanger a life. There is no minimum/maximum sentence for manslaughter. Juveniles aged 12 to 17 who commit an offence are penalised under juvenile criminal law. Johnny is 16, so he would be trialed as a minor. This case would be a class D felony, so I would saw 4 years in a juvenile
