I would agree with Goldberger's claim that cell phones have made people more isolated, careless, and unaware of their surroundings. The article discusses how area codes used to define the location of people and where they make calls from, but with cell phones an area code means absolutely nothing to me, all it means is a number I have to type in or else my call will not go through. A person from San Francisco with a 860 area code can make a call with that number from anywhere in the world, defeating the purpose of area codes.
