The Election of 1860 ended with the victory going to Abraham Lincoln. This election brought a lot of controversy with it since the south deeply opposed the election of Lincoln since he was a republican. The reasons being since the republicans opposed slavery. But the south was afraid that if he was elected that slavery would soon be banned afterward since he already said that slavery should not be able to move to other territories. This was the Crittenden Compromise. The Crittenden compromise of 1860 was created by John J. Crittenden. This compromise was to dissolve the conflict between the north and southern states by proposing six constitutional amendments and four congressional resolutions. All of these were saying that the established line for slavery would be increased and guaranty the permanent existence of slavery. Now the south was all for these new amendments and resolutions. But the north was against them bringing up the same old conflict between them. All of this ending up leading to the Civil War, which as it turns out in the end was always inevitable. (Crittenden
