What is pollution? Well pollution is a term we hear a lot and that we are accustomed to but what does is it really mean. (Conserve Energy) We hear about pollution a lot but could you tell me what it is if I asked you? Well I know that pollution is the introduction of a harmful substance to the environment. Pollution is the most reused word used to describe the destruction of the natural air we breathe in and the water we drink and land we live on. (UKessays) Pollution causes things to change in the environment and not for the better but for worse. Pollution can take form of chemical substances or energy such as noise, heat or light. These harmful materials are known as pollutants. …show more content…
Sulfur dioxide is emitted from the combustion of fossil fuels like coal, petroleum and other factory combustibles. It is the one of the major causes of air pollution. Air pollution can be classified in 2 types of groups, visible air pollution and invisible air pollution. Your probably wondering where I’m going with this so I will explain. For example pollution like smog is visible and can do a lot of damage to your body internal organs. You can see it but not always realize what it is an Invisible pollutant is sound. Yes, sound is one of many pollutants and can affect you even when you can’t tell. Sometimes the affects won’t be noticeable until later in the future as you get elderly. Like all kids in today’s world we listen to music very loud and we have our ear buds in and that noise can affect our ear causing temporary or permanent damage to our ear drum. It doesn’t always have to be music or stereos to affect us also. It can also be a car horn, a jet flying by or by any sound exceeding above 85 decibels. It mostly depends on how long and how often you are exposed to them and whether you wear hearing protection, such as earplugs or earmuffs. Another example of invisible pollution is cell phones. The effect of mobile phone radiation on human health is a very interesting study worldwide, as a result of the enormous increase in mobile phone usage throughout the world. …show more content…
(J.E.Myers) Land pollution is the deposition of solid or liquid waste materials on land or underground in a manner that can contaminate the soil and the ground water and threaten public health, and cause unsightly conditions and nuisances. (Jerry A. Nathanson.) Why does land pollution matter? Even though the world seems like a very large place only about a third of its surface is covered by land there are over 7 billion people populating it and trying to survive so let’s take care of it. Before modern techniques for disposing of hazardous wastes were legislated and put into practice the wastes were generally disposed of or stores in surface piles, lagoons, ponds and even lakes and landfills. Usually land that is polluted stays polluted and if it is urbanized than it will stay urbanized. Plastic, this is one of the major pollutants takes hundreds of years to degenerate while radiation can infect land and last for many decades longer. (Chris Woodford) The Major issues of land pollution are because of construction, domestic waste, industrial waste and deforestation. When deforestation commences, the tree cover is penetrated so it becomes compromised which then causes a steep imbalance in the rain cycle which plays a huge role in the amount of rainfall the area will receive.
