Americans have been convinced that colorblindness is the most efficient method to overcome racial injustices. A common misconception is if race does not exist, then racial issues will disappear. However, colorblindness is an infection and will inflame, leaving behind a blistering array of racial tensions. The first consequence of racial colorblindness is ignorance. Ignorance concerning the magnitude of racial tensions in America. In a study regarding the opinion on whether racism is an issue, “sixty-two percent [of millennials] believe that having a black president shows that minorities have the same opportunities as whites, and sixty-seven percent believe it proves that race is not a ‘barrier to accomplishments’” (Jamelle Bouie, Slate).
