IT is the early winter of 2015, a cold, windy Wednesday afternoon. Two of us sit together, side by side, in soft, comfortable chairs on the second level of our home. We wear everyday clothes. I listen patiently to her ramblings. When the talking is over, I sit up in the chair, and I am officially telling her everything, the eldest child of Heather Crawford in the city of Hutto, Texas. For me, the curtain has just closed on lying. Afterward, I look up at my mom, my biggest critic, and apologize to her.
She is a round woman who speaks in a loud voice, as if an ignorant person could, at any time, fail to hear when she spoke. In her rocking chair, she looks like a cross between a spoiled child and a terrifying headmistress. She has unforgiving

“I regret drifting apart from my sister. Especially during my highschool years and her middle school years because she started to get into drugs. I kind of blame myself for not being there when she started hanging around the wrong people. My mom didn't know who we were hanging around; she didn't know our personal lives. She was working.” After not being able to save her middle sister, she decided to be there for her youngest sister. Harvest And now we’re back where we started. The dogwoods are blooming in shades of pink and white and three children play beneath them. Grandparents watch over them carefully, as do parents. Yet something is different this time. That morning, they had woken up with the sun, slowly and naturally. They got ready on their own time, then went to their grandparent’s home. They talked and laughed and played and everybody was happy. Later, the father would cook a big meal and they would sit around the table together and continue their stories. The mother would then work on crocheting a baby blanket for a child on the way. Everyone else would find a book and they would enjoy the comfortable silence that surrounded them. The dishes were left in the sink. They could wait for tomorrow. The dogs curled up at their feet and snored quietly. Maybe later a sister would arrive and join them for dessert while they watched the sun set on the back porch. It’s a familiar scene, but different roles were handed out this time around. The three children that had played before, were now the parents. Their children were the ones enjoying the dogwoods this time. The grandparents had gotten older. This would be the perfect
