Harvest And now we’re back where we started. The dogwoods are blooming in shades of pink and white and three children play beneath them. Grandparents watch over them carefully, as do parents. Yet something is different this time. That morning, they had woken up with the sun, slowly and naturally. They got ready on their own time, then went to their grandparent’s home. They talked and laughed and played and everybody was happy. Later, the father would cook a big meal and they would sit around the table together and continue their stories. The mother would then work on crocheting a baby blanket for a child on the way. Everyone else would find a book and they would enjoy the comfortable silence that surrounded them. The dishes were left in the sink. They could wait for tomorrow. The dogs curled up at their feet and snored quietly. Maybe later a sister would arrive and join them for dessert while they watched the sun set on the back porch. It’s a familiar scene, but different roles were handed out this time around.
