Analyzing the Influence of the Novel To Kill a Mockingbird What makes a book a classic? Perhaps it needs to teach a noteworthy lesson. Whenever one is startled, or caught off-guard, the innate human response is to either flee or fight. Most human brains are wired to run from danger. This runs parallel to when humans are faced with a problem or a difficult situation. Many individuals would rather run away from problems than work at resolving them. The novel “Things That Fly” by Douglas Coupland conveys the themes of Escape as well as The Human Condition in his short story by utilizing the symbols of Superman, the narrator’s messy apartment, and birds’ ability to fly.…
One of the most specific similarities between To Kill a Mockingbird and the author are the names of her characters. Many of the names found in the book stem from the maiden name of her mother, Frances Cunningham Finch Lee (Flanchman). The main character’s family name of Finch is easy to spot, but several other characters claim their title from this, including Scout’s rotten cousin Francis and the Cunningham family. Lee followed a similar rule with Scout and Jem’s father, Atticus. Not only is his name very similar to her own father’s first name of Amasa, but his character corresponds with him as well.…
The Ever Wandering Constraint “Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of desire. This also is vanity and grasping for the wind.” (Ecclesiastes 6:9 NKJV) in this text from the Bible wandering is constrained to a negative meaning but, in John Milton’s Paradise Lost, constraint is found and broken throughout the poem. Milton uses constraint as a major thematic element throughout his poem. In this essay we will be examining the characters of Adam and Eve with their personal constraints and as they related to each other, Satan’s contempt of constraint and constant trying to be rid of constraint, and as well as illustrating the lack of constraint upon the poem itself in the way it is written and the way the word wander changes without constraint throughout the poem.…

Cinder as Wonder Woman I mean. Cinder is Princess Selene, Wonder Woman is Princess Diana. Psalm 68 is an amazing poem written by David that gives insight into the character and qualities of God as sovereign king of both Israel and the world. What is more, the psalm bounces back and forth from speaking to God; using personal pronouns such as ‘you,’ and at the same time David is telling the reader about God. Both of these methods lend well for worship. In addition, David was a king, so his perspective of God as king and the role of the king for his people threads all the way through the entire psalm. Psalm 68 lists specific qualities of God as king, shows his primary activities on behalf of his people and parallels to how King Jesus lived while on earth.…
He is telling the reader that his soul and the spider are similar. Whitman uses figurative language by saying the spider 's web and making connections with different objects to form a web is similar to the soul trying to make connections and go places. While in Dickinson 's poem, “Success is Counted Sweetest ,” she says that people who succeed every time do not appreciate success it is the ones who lose that appreciate success the most. This is because if someone always wins they do not know the feeling of losing so winning is just what they do in life.…
The most basic form of action and decision-making mechanism within an individual is that of human instinct, which in turn develops one’s integrity. In the lengthy poem of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, we learn how one man’s actions develop not, only his integrity, honor, and motivation for self pride, but we also learn that everyone makes mistakes and we are all human. The poem is about a man, Sir Gawain, a member of Arthur’s round table, who takes on a challenge from a mystical and mysterious green knight and is forced by his own intuition to proceed through adversity and temptation to fulfill his duty to the challenge and himself. The poem gives multiple instances where his integrity as a chivalrous man and his faith and honor to God…
The issue foregrounded in these two poems is the evil men’s soul. People are filled with overflowing cruelty and viciousness. In the first stanza (line 2) of the Second Coming, the poet used an image of a falcon to highlight how great people are moving away from God to earthly things. “The second image of the poem- ‘the falcon cannot hear the falconer’- suggests not only the absence of authority, but the violent destructiveness (represented by the uncontrolled falcon) which follows without it” (Spurr and Cameron, 2010, 208). To elaborate further on the above quote, the falcon can be considered as the people and the falconer as God.…
