I can apply this personal story to The Kübler-Ross Model. The seven stages of this model are shock, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, testing, acceptance (Townsend, 2015). The first stage of this model is denial. This is when my dad found out that he was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. He was in shock when he heard this news and could not believe it. The second stage is denial. This is the stage I feel like my dad is currently still in. He is trying to avoid the inevitable of being diabetic. Too much stress could lead to one not being able to cope effectively. It is said that there is a relationship between stress and type 2 diabetes. When the making of pro-inflammatory cytokines is taking place, these can be stimulated by the negative emotions and the stressful experiences one has (Touhy&Jett, 2016). I find this very interesting because my dad is works as a nurse. He loves working the 12 hour shifts and also being on-call. He is constantly under stress when one puts into perspective how much he works, the stress of taking care of his family, and making sure the bills are paid when they are due. This whole story is personally emotional because I am really close to my parents. I have never thought that my dad would be diagnosed with something like this. I always had the impression that he is a nurse and knows what is best for his body. It hurts to know that I had done all I can when I was home for the summer and now at school I really cannot do anything to help. My hope is that my dad finds that he is in a better state when monitoring his intake. I only want what is best for
